THE SIX ENTRY STREAMS

CELEBRATING WHERE ESSEX DOES BUSINESS WITH THE WORLD

Essex is home to some extraordinary entrepreneurial talent. To keep things simple, we’ve split the NOVO Awards into six entry streams.

Whilst the NOVO Awards will celebrate commercial success in the six streams, they also take into account how ethical the innovation’s roadmap was and what legacy it will create.

We’re looking for businesses that combine innovation in any of our six streams together with the qualities of being smart, ethical and principled.

If your innovation helps make the world a better place, then we will recognise you with a NOVO Award.

These are the
six streams:

WHY INNOVATION?

We believe that innovation is about creating truly unique products or services or ground-breaking operational processes. In other words, you don’t need to have invented an innovative THING, but you could have invented an innovative PROCESS.

It was innovation that drove Pfizer and AstraZeneca to create the world’s first vaccines against COVID-19.

Essex has a long history of innovation as well as entrepreneurship. It’s widely known that Guglielmo Marconi was the inventor of wireless (radio) technology. Right here in Essex, he established the world’s first wireless (radio) factory in a former silk mill in Hall Street in Chelmsford in 1898, when he was aged just 23. But, who knew that Marconi’s wireless industry pioneered the early recruitment of a female workforce – blazing a trail in the early 20th century?

Essex-based entrepreneurs are ingenious and driven. Their innovative products and services revolutionise the way we think and work. But wait, surely innovation alone is pointless unless it is channelled to make a positive impact? That’s what’s truly inspiring about the NOVO Awards – we showcase your innovation as well as its great results. That way, we can all benefit from innovation – across Essex and beyond.
